Hello Dear Listeners,

Are you enjoying your summer fun?  Have you seen any summer ghosts, or perhaps a warm weather bigfoot cooling off in a stream?  We haven't but we're still looking.  In between our adventures we're releasing another listener suggested episode (thanks Lindsey C.!!!) that is near and dear to Laramie's cold cold heart.

Welcome to our episode on Night of Dark Shadows (NODS)!! Does NODS make sense? Not really!  Does it relate to the TV series?  Kind of?! Sorry for our brief break but we had to go have some summer fun!  Fear not!  We are back this week with episode 20 and what better way to celebrate this milestone than with a listener suggested topic? Our wonderful listener Joanna suggested this weeks topic, and we LOVE IT!!

This week Katya and Laramie discuss the story of the 5 boys who never came back.  Much like our Dyatlov Pass episode this story has mountains, tragic deaths, and more theories with no answers than you can handle.  So strap in for a sad and scary tale about more mountains that you should probably stay far far away from.

The Death of LaVena Johnson Scares Us

Hello Dear Listeners,

We've received so many wonderful messages from some of you and want to extend our sincere thanks. You are all what make this podcast great!  Please continue to write to us and let us know what you think or tell us your spooky stories.  We have truly enjoyed our past two episodes sharing scary stories with friends, and discussing a horror classic with The Birds.  This weeks episode is much less fun and so very tragic in the way that only true events can be.

Join us this week as we discuss the beautiful life and horrific death of PFC LaVena Johnson.  We have a long discussion about the American military, and their alleged involvement in what appears to be a very suspicious death.  If you want to learn even more about the events we discuss in this episode please look into some of the wonderful independent journalism surrounding the Johnson family's struggle to learn what happened to their daughter.  Our deepest respect, and sympathy goes out to the Johnson family.

The Birds Scares Us

Hello Dear Listeners,

Sorry for the delay this week!  We had many things happening and had some technical challenges.  Fear not!  We have returned to give you a reason to be afraid, even as we move through spring and into the sunny summer season.  Don't you all remember that horror in the daylight is real!?

Join Katya and Laramie as they discuss (and sing about) Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. There is plenty to be afraid of in this one. Creepy movie directors, condescending lawyers, women breaking into houses to leave birds, birds that peck out eyes (so many eyes!!), if its bird or misogyny related this movie probably has it!!  Plus, Katya and Laramie discuss the horror of coming to terms with the bad behavior of artists we love.

Welcome to the house party episode of This Place Scares Us!  We don't know how your life has been, but spring time has been a bit too busy for all of us at TPSU.  So we decided to let our amazing hair down and have a house party!!

We brought our wonderful friends and family in to the This Place Scares Us Studio to hear their creepy stories.  Taylor (yes, the actually famous Taylor), Ryan (our amazing social media manager), Tori (of Silver Bullet Scares Us fame), and Amy and Aaron (our besties from Frame of Mind MT) join us to tell their scariest stories!

This episode was recorded during a house party so sound quality is a bit all over the place, and we were maybe a bit deep into our wine to keep things on a great track.  So, if this isn't your thing feel free to let us know. The case of Anneliese Michel came about at the height of all things possession, The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, and The Omen were all released around the time of this tragic event.  So join us as we explore what was truly a tragic life, and a disturbing death with no clear answers.

We are enjoying the slow transition to spring and are excited to be releasing a new episode to all of you.  There have been many changes in our lives and we are excited to share them with you!

In this episode Katya and Laramie talk about why werewolves, manitous, and any shape-shifter should scare you.  Hybrids are a common theme in horror and there is likely a larger context behind that.  Katya and Laramie talk about all of the ways that hybrids show up in the history of horror.  So come join us as we decide if werewolves are cannibals or not!

We hope that things have been going well for you as we leave the doldrums of winter and emerge into spring.  We have had a busy couple of weeks here at This Place Scares Us, and honestly our schedules have been scaring us more than anything.  But we digress.

In this episode Katya and Laramie discuss the sad history of Marcus Wesson and his horrible abuse of everyone in his family.  Katya and Laramie bring a lot of humor to an otherwise disturbing topic talking about all of their new band names, vampire Jesus (really) and the difficulties of caring about reading.

We had a ton of fun on this episode (partly because Katya and Laramie got so drunk) and spend a bit of time shouting out some of our dear friends, family, and all of you wonderful listeners!  Thank you for all making us feel special.

Frankenstein Among the Dead Scares Us

Hi Dear Listeners,
We have had a few technical difficulties, and the end of winter was rather crazy for us!  Sorry for the delay in getting you such an exciting episode!  We will be getting back on our regular schedule and dropping another episode in two weeks!
In this episode we discuss all things Frankenstein!  Laramie published a play called Frankenstein Among the Dead (available for purchase at www.theatrefolk.com), and we watched The Bride of Frankenstein to have all the Frankenstein goodness to talk about.  Katya decides that Frankenstein is the saddest classic monster, and Laramie discusses the process of writing a dramatic adaptation.
We were really bummed to find out that some of our great discussion was lost to faulty recording.  We will try and find a way to update what was lost, but in the meantime there is lots to love about this episode!
