The Shining Scares Us

Buckle up, kitty cats, as Katya and I delve into the dark, dark world of Stephen King's The Shinning

Sorry; The Shining; I don't care if I get sued.

The original hardcover dusk jacket art, where the grumpy hedge lion is rather amusing to me now; as a kid it freaked me the eff out.  And Jack looks just like Warren Beatty.

The paperback copy that the Easter Bunny brought me because I was an amazing and very fortunate child.

The Shining with movie pictures!!!

Me last Christmas with my Salem's Lot with movie pictures -- thanks Aunt Nancy!

The dead woman in 237 from the Kubrick film.  As a fan of the book, the movie sucks, but damn does it get the ghosts down.

And from the 1997 remake, which does not get the ghosts down.

'
Watched the Kubrick movie with my mom as a second grader; didn't see it again until I was 13.  We had just moved to Missoula and suddenly I could rent movies that I couldn't find in eastern Montana (it was 1992; Showcase and Blockbuster were still viable things).  For some reason I was all alone in the house, and even though it was a gorgeous afternoon in August, I was freaked, first by the dead woman in the bathtub, and then, far worse, by this image:  the creepy dog/bear man fellating this codger, whose facial expression -- "Excuse me; can we help you, bitch?" -- is priceless.
